Can You Skip Your Period?
Is it possible to skip a period? The short answer is, yes, you can! Whether it's the pill, the patch, the ring, or an IUD, here are some ways you can skip your period with birth control. Note: always consult your doctor before trying any of these methods for yourself.
The Pill
The pill is one of the most common forms of birth control available. Most birth control pills come in a 28-day pack, with the last 7 days being placebo pills. That would be the week that you get your period. If you want to skip your period, instead of taking the placebo pills, immediately start a new pack of birth control pills! Note: If you want to skip your period often, you can ask your gynecologist for a type of birth control that will only give you your period once every 3 months.
The Patch
You can stick a birth control patch on your stomach, upper arm, butt, or back, and hormones get absorbed into the skin. It’s most effective when you stick it to the same spot every time you replace it. You will usually have to replace the patch once a week, and the fourth week is when you’re supposed to have your period. To skip your period with this method, simply start a new round of patches instead of leaving the patches off during the fourth week.
The Ring
The ring is a little more complicated in terms of skipping your period. It works by sitting inside your vagina, giving off hormones to help prevent pregnancy. You can wear your ring for three, four, or five days, and then you take it out for seven days in order to get your period. If you want to skip your period with the ring, there are two ways you can do it. One way is to pick a day every month that you will always change it. For example, if you pick the 10th, you will always change your ring on the 10th of the month, every month. The other way is to change it every three, four, or five weeks, on the same day of the week. So if you change your ring on a Wednesday, you will replace it every three, four, or five weeks, on a Wednesday.
These are just a few of the birth control methods you can use when you want to skip your period for any reason at all! Thank you, science!
