Foods You Should Avoid On Your Period
We know you don’t want to hear this but… there's a lot of foods you should be avoiding while you are on your period. And some of these foods are probably some of your favorites. But hey, it’s just one week! You can handle one week without these foods!
Carbonated Drinks
We know you love your sodas but you know those bubbles that come to the top when you open a fresh can or bottle? Those little bubbles are filled with gas. Then when you take a sip, those bubbles go into your stomach and they pop. When they pop, they fill your stomach with gas. Okay, the point is, carbonated drinks make you bloated. That's it. Yes, even the fancy sparkling water with no calories or sugar that you're drinking to be good on your diet. They all have those bubbles. They will all make you bloated!
Coffee (or caffeine in general)
Even though you might be a little extra tired during your time of the month, try to stay away from coffee or caffeine during that time. Caffeine is linked to the constriction of blood vessels, which basically means cramps galore. It'll be hard especially if you have a mini caffeine addiction. Don't worry, we won't tell anyone. But in the meantime try to stick to tea for the week OR if you’re really craving a little coffee, go for decaf. It still has a little bit of caffeine in it but not enough to give you those bad cramps.
Fried Foods
Yes, this includes donuts. I know it's not what you want to hear but no donuts this week, okay? Fried foods during your time of the month are NOT good for you at all. In retrospect, fried foods are never really good for you but right now we’re talking about your time of the month. Fried food contains trans fats which are known to lower your estrogen levels. Estrogen helps in combating period cramps. So if trans fat lowers estrogen, then you could be susceptible to period cramps. Bottom line, no fried foods, got it?
Fatty Foods
Please see above…
Processed Foods
Processed food is known to have TONS of sodium in them, which is yet another culprit of bloating. This is because sodium makes you retain water which can cause you to bloat. But if you do decide to ignore this advice (which you definitely shouldn't!) a good way to counteract this is just by upping your water intake during your time of the month! But you’ll feel even better if you decide to avoid processed foods altogether!
Granted all these foods aren’t really good for you in the first place, but if you are going to eat them at all… maybe don't eat them the week of your period. Eating these foods on your period is just asking for trouble. And you don’t want any trouble, do you?
