Top 3 Dos & Don'ts on Your Period

Top 3 Dos & Don'ts on Your Period

Cramps, acne, mood swings and bloating are a recipe for a dreadful period. Your period can be rough, so why make it harder? If you’re not sure how to make your period easier, here is a list of three dos and don’ts for a more comfortable period.

Do & Don't #1

Do: Workout

It’s a common misconception that working out on your period isn’t safe but there's no scientific reason you should skip out on workouts during that time of the month! In fact, studies have shown that doing light workouts can help relieve your period symptoms. Keep up with your workouts, but don’t push yourself too hard.

Don’t: Eat Fast Food

Although cravings are high during your period, avoiding fast food will help you in the long run. These foods are full of sodium and can actually cause your period symptoms to skyrocket and make you feel worse. So say “bye-bye french fry!”

Do & Don't #2

Do: Get Plenty of Rest

Being on your period causes your estrogen levels to drop. This can cause some to have a hard time sleeping. It’s very important to make sure you get enough sleep while on your period, and your body needs at least 7 to 9 hours a night to properly function. If you have a hard time falling asleep, try drinking chamomile tea before bed to relax.

Don’t: Ignore Your Symptoms

We all know to expect PMS symptoms when your period is about to arrive, but don’t ignore them! Many women who experience severe PMS symptoms may have a deeper cause behind them. If you experience any intense pains during your period or the week before, make sure you speak to your health care professional.

Do & Don't #3

Do: Drink Water and STAY HYDRATED

Many believe drinking water on their period will cause more bloating, but that’s not true. Drinking water and staying hydrated can actually reduce bloating, ease cramps, and in some cases, even help shorten your period! So try to drink about 9 to 10 glasses of water a day while on your period.

Don’t: Drink A Lot of Coffee

Try to limit yourself to one small cup of coffee, as having too many caffeinated beverages can cause you to feel more anxious and stressed. It can also increase discomfort, bloating, and worsen your menstrual cramps.

With these dos and don'ts, you won’t have to let those period symptoms stop you from doing, being, and going. Have the time of your month!
